Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

This year I began teaching 2nd Grade in a co-taught classroom. Our school utilizes Lucy Calkins Readers and Writers Workshops in addition to creating rigorous instruction aligned to NY State Common Core Standards.

I'm looking for support in expanding my library with resource-based texts that I can use and share with my coworkers in an effort to continue to grow as an educator.

Unfortunately, textbooks are expensive and this is something that I am unable to afford to purchase for myself. If gifted these materials I feel that I would be able to expand my strategies and implement new practices that are ideal for my students.

My Project

This Donors Choose project is much different than others I have put together in the past. I'm asking for help developing professionally.

It's disappointing that teacher texts are so expensive.

I feel that it would be very helpful to obtain hard copies of texts that I use daily to influence and allow me to make decisions regarding my guided reading instruction. This is my first year teaching guided reading and with the help of one of our schools literacy specialists I was able to identify some tools that would help me to grow you Teacher Toolbox!
