Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a very diverse population, predominately Latino and African American and come from a school that is located in one of the poorest congressional districts in the nation, one thing they all have in common is the will to learn and grow. They see the world differently from what we do as adults. These views have helped me connect the world to them and allow them to learn more, as well.
Times have changed, and we, as educators, have to consider their views.
My students believe in having a voice and are willing to let everyone know what they feel and see. They work hard to accomplish their goals, overcoming all obstacles. They too should have the same opportunities as any other student all over the country.
My Project
When a student shows interest in reading it shows interest for knowledge. Reading always helps the mind grows, and it doesn't have to be something specific. Reading is fundamental, let us help these kids grow.
A child who reads will be an adult who thinks.
This project includes a mixture of topics for readers, it is what our future generation can inspire to. We have students interested in fiction, non-fiction and some even on finance. Books like the Harry Potter box set is a fan favorite that many students are familiar with. Authors like Dave Ramsey and Peter Lynch have also spark interest to some students in terms of financial literacy. Financial literacy books, for example “Learn to Earn”, and “The financial Peace Planner” will help students better prepare after school and in the real world.
