I am an 8th grade English teacher in a small town in rural North Carolina. The students I teach are part of the most obese generation America has ever seen. Students generally do not exercise outside of their scheduled PE class. My team of teachers (myself, a math teacher, a science teacher and social studies teacher) have arranged to give our students fifteen minutes of scheduled outside play time each day. Studies have proven that students who exercise daily are more attentive, awake and do better in the classroom. My students relish their time to play but often have to wait to play games because we do not have much equipment. I would love to have 4 basketballs, 4 four square balls, two footballs, four tennis rackets and two cans of tennis balls. This equipment would be checked out and checked in by students daily so we can keep it maintained.
