"One of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can't utter." James Earl Jones
I have the pleasure of working with amazing students that are learning to communicate and understand the world around them.
I provide speech and language services to students in the general education setting as well as the special education setting. Unfortunately, the special education budget has been cut in half. My students have speech and language impairments. Some also have severe disabilities, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, learning disabilities, other health impairments, emotional disturbances, Down Syndrome, and autism. 51% of our students receive free to reduced lunch due to the high poverty level of my school. Their exposure to language at home may be limited. My speech and language students come to school eager to learn and communicate with everyone!
My students need Little People toys, Melissa and Doug puzzles, and board games, so they learn new vocabulary for communication, reading, and writing. My students are struggling to communicate, make choices or friends, respond appropriately in various scenarios, read and write. The board games can be adapted to show sight words, vocabulary, or drill words for students to select, while learning and playing. The educational games such as Bubble Talk, Pancake Pile Up, and wind-up toys can be used to engage the students by having fun while learning to categorize, sequence, and/or reinforce concepts during instructional lessons.
My students will learn letters, sounds, and vocabulary needed to function in the community with their communication, reading, and writing.
The board games and activities will allow the students to have fun while learning at the same time. This will make drill practice and learning a fun and exciting time for all!
