Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Picture it: students receiving free breakfast and lunch, teachers buy their students' school supplies and their own classroom materials. This is my reality. I teach first grade in an impoverished neighborhood and in a city with major cutbacks in funding in materials and staff.

My students are excited learners because school is an outlet for them. They are excited to come to school to learn and socialize. My students enjoy all their subjects, but science most of all. Science is exciting and interactive. However, without funds, it is difficult to support the themes that need to be taught in science.

Books are an integral part of a classroom. Nonfiction books would help me teach the different themes of science. I would be able to help students develop a deeper understanding of various themes of science by reading books that are engaging and provide information appropriate for my first grade class. These books would also provide my students with exposure to nonfiction.

With your help, I will be able to integrate nonfiction books into my science curriculum. My students will be able to enjoy nonfiction books and learn about science at the same time. You will make it possible to give my students the ability to further their understanding of the various themes of science I will teach.
