My Project

My classroom serves students in a residential setting who are working on building their social-emotional and classroom skills in order to move back into a less restrictive environment. Many of my students have had negative experiences with school in the past, and it can sometimes be hard for them to re-engage in academics. They really benefit from rewards- such as being able to purchase rewarding and high-interest items from the school store!

In my classroom, I use a reward system to help kids stay engaged and motivated.

Students earn "money" and points they can spend in the "school store" at the end of the week. This is my students' favorite time of the week- and it really helps motivate them when working on classroom skills and hard tasks.

Many of my students are from foster homes and haven't had many opportunities to choose brand-new items for themselves- especially clothing! I've chosen all of these items based upon the activities I see my students enjoy the most- for example, mini-block sets, activity books, and fidgets- as well as some items so students can create their own t-shirts. I know these items would really level up our school store and help students build motivation!
