Exciting Earth Science for Middle School

My Students

Carl Sagan wrote, "Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge." A goal of science education is to engage students in creative work and exploration.

My middle school is a grades 6-8 fringe rural school in Idaho.

6th graders are new to the middle school experience. I am excited to get my students into the classroom and share the learning experience. Students learn by doing and that is what we do in my literature based reading class. Students benefit from reading and writing daily.

As our district is no longer allowed to collect student fees, our minimal budgets are used for student supplies instead of class sets of novels.

My Project

My students love to investigate the new topics I present, and hands-on learning lets all the kids work, no matter what their skill level is. With the fossil molds and science project supplies, students will be excited to apply their learning.

6th-grade science students are ready to investigate any topic.

These supplies will be used year after year. The classroom globe will help students visualize our changing Earth. The fossil molds will allow students to create their own geologic timeline​ while doing a fun art project. The fossils we create will be used in several learning labs. My students create their own science notebooks. The glue sticks will provide supplies for successful note taking.
