My Project

My students come from a culturally diverse neighborhood. Over half are low-income and most come from homes where English is a second language. Many of the families are not able to afford to make classroom donations, and are just able to provide the necessities of life. Increasing inflation has added to the stress for many of these families.

I love the rich diversity of culture and backgrounds my students bring to school with them every day.

They face challenges with grit and determination and positive attitudes. They are hard-working, energetic, and eager to learn! I learn new things from them every day.

Giving my students new books that are engaging, exciting and culturally diverse will help their excitement for literacy to grow. Giving them options for different genres that are on their current reading level will also help this enthusiasm to grow.
