Although I was wanting to make a shift away from so much technology, it became more urgent as teachers were being told that there would be restrictions to technology use for the upcoming school year. \r\n\r\nThe school year is just getting under way, but I feel like that shift has been easier for me to make due to the wonderful items that were provided through this project. I have resources where students can explore, build, play and read! I am able to use the items as part of learning rotations or as an incentive area for students who complete work and who need additional opportunities to engage their minds. Students are tapping into creative play while tinkering with Brainflakes, Picasso Tiles, marble runs, and straw constructors. I see thinking, team work, and collaboration in action. In addition, thanks to our additional subscriptions to Storyworks, each student is able to receive a monthly magazine. Students love to peruse this magazine, and I love to use it for explicit reading instruction. It's a win for all of us! We watched a video about following school rules, read the magazine together, and played a search-and-circle game as a class. It was an enjoyable way to reinforce the expectations of our classroom and school as we begin the new school year.\r\n\r\nWe are excited to read the magazine each week and learn more about the world around us! Some of our upcoming lessons will teach us about monarch butterfly migration, apple orchards, and pumpkins. I especially love that Let's Find Out offers so many different ways for my kindergarten students to learn, including technology, hands-on activities, videos, and reading.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping bring these engaging learning experiences into our classroom. This has helped them practice tracking print as they listen. They've also learned to cooperate as a group and take turns being in charge of the Tonie Box, which gives them a sense of leadership and responsibility.\r\n\r\nOne of their favorite features is choosing which character to listen to when it's their turn. Kahoot has been such an incredible tool to keep my students excited and engaged without realizing how much they're learning!\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite things about Kahoot is that it can be used in all content areas. We've used it to practice times tables, identify steps in the process of photosynthesis, match idioms to their meaning, and so much more!\r\n\r\nWithout your donations, we never would have had the opportunity to use this tool in our classroom. We aren't able to purchase Kahoot memberships with our legislative funds, and it can be tough for me to purchase multiple memberships with my own personal funds while also taking care of my own family.
