Ms. White from Miami FL is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students the digital resources they need that will allow me to personalize each laptop or IPAD to their individual needs; allowing them to experience high-quality learning that will benefit them most.

I am an ESE teacher… teaching 28 students in grades K-5th in the heart of Liberty City located in Miami, Florida. My students all come from low socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, all on free lunch, and all living in foster homes or in a single-parent household. My students are faced with many obstacles mentally, academically, financially, and environmentally that make it difficult for them to imagine having a successful life. Regardless of the challenges, everyone may face, they are not allowed to give up. My classroom is a safe haven. My students are energetically greeted every day and reminded of how awesome they are. I literally find 1-2 things each student possesses that I could brag about. I create a positive atmosphere in the classroom that enhances my relationship with them and makes them feel important. I feel their energy.
I love to see how good they feel about themselves, how motivated they are to come to school and learn, and most importantly how strong their self-assurance is and how they are not afraid to challenge themselves academically.
If I had access to a variety of Digital learning activities, I would be able to sharpen my students' critical thinking skills in a fun way and allow them to better connect with the learning material in person and virtually.
Often my students have a difficult time expressing themselves, processing information, or simply spelling and/or writing their questions and/or answers.
Having Digital learning activities in my class; will allow my students to actively learn without realizing they are learning. All activities are presented through engaging methods such as peer education, teamwork, problem-solving, reverse teaching, concept maps, gamification, staging, role-playing, and storytelling. Students will experience various ways to ask and answer open-ended questions with imagination and logic as well as learn how and why to make decisions.
Digital learning will make a difference because it will simply take the anxiety out of learning the traditional way. Students will have the choice of presenting their answers verbally, short-answers, or multiple choice. Students will want to volunteer more... students will enjoy assisting their peers and receiving assistance. Not to mention, I am also able to meet each student at their level with full participation.
Digital learning can be used at home or in class. I am able to assist my students from their location digitally. I can even mark on their assignment from another location while they are working on the same assignment. Students will also have the opportunity to collaborate and work successfully in groups as well as promote cooperation and teamwork which are very important skills my students often have difficulty mastering when learning the traditional way.
