There are great programs and there are low performing programs. Then there is my program-girls basketball. I would love to help an awesome group of young ladies on the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity basketball teams. This talented group of athletes is a mix of nationalities, with last years varsity team hailing an 12-10 record and coming in 2nd place in the Milwaukee City Blue Division. They are a direct reflection of what hard work, commitment, and determination exemplifies.
We are a Title I school, and eighty-two percent of the students are economically disadvantaged.
Many of the students are also first generation students that plan to graduate and go to college. These young ladies are all dedicated to their academics and sports. Despite the economic disadvantages and lack of needed equipment, the program has successfully hosted their postseason playoff game for the first time in 6 years. The young ladies would like to continue this tradition but need the equipment to put them to the next level.
Rather than just doing basic basketball drills when the ladies practice, the team will be able to use the items in the gym and practice their shooting, passing and first touch skills. The pads and shot correction improve their skills for game like situations. The Instructional Cards will also give me and my athletes different opportunities to practice and perfect the different ranges of skills.
The teams will have more flexibility and can have a more rigorous practice.
The varsity team is currently in the process of pursuing a first place conference win. These resources will help further their success on the court in pursuit of a state championship for years to come.
