Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our third-grade students are going to learn about money, spending, saving, management, wants versus needs, and we need to give them the tools to make learning enjoyable and engaging.

The Pay Day board game will give them a real-world example of the cycle of working at a job, getting paid, and spending money on bills.

The resources for small groups that have cards with money and pictures of real-world items with prices will give students the much-needed practice, and it will give the much-needed scaffolding for all my English language learners. The Money Bingo will allow a small group or whole classroom to practice identifying denominations and putting a picture with a number amount. This is always a fun way for a student to review and grow their previous knowledge. The books will be a wonderful addition to each class library and students will be able to read about money and financial literacy. This will help them increase their financial vocabulary, as well. I am really excited about these financial learning tools for our third-grade level classrooms because our students come from low-income and multi-trauma homes that do not get the privilege of having positive financial conversations. We have an opportunity as the classroom teacher to make a huge difference for these students, their families, and their communities. My students want to be leaders in their communities and they want to make a difference. This project will help them all reach their goals.
