My Students

Our public school serves over 600 children grades K-5 in a rural South Carolina setting. Many of our students receive free or reduced lunch and are part of the weekend backpack meals program.

Our kindergarten classes consist of approximately 95, 5 and 6 year old students from varying backgrounds.

Many of our students do not have access to internet or technology in their homes and are learning about technology for the first time in our kindergarten classrooms. In addition to the lack of technology, we have a large population of students that do not speak English in their homes.

By providing additional technology in our classrooms, we will also be able to help develop their English skills by providing individual time to work on language development. They are excited eager learners and want to know all about the world around them.

My Project

Having Chromebooks in our classroom will give our students a chance to learn the computer skills that they need to be successful in school. Students must be able to use technology to compete in the future. Our district already requires computer aided testing in kindergarten and our children need experience with technology to be able to successfully prepare for this testing.

With technology constantly changing, we must provide opportunities for our students to practice technology skills so that they can complete activities, find information and complete district mandated testing.

By providing technology in the classroom for students to use independently on a daily basis, we can help better prepare them for their future!
