Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach "at risk" students in a Title 1 school in Greensboro,N.C., with 85% on a free lunch program. Many of my students are non-English speaking, living in small crowded apartments with as many as eight other people. I don't want them to feel crowded in the classroom. I would like to provide a comfortable area where each student can sit comfortably in his own space during calendar, story time, and whole class instruction without my having to put masking taped names on the floor. Each year I purchase a new college dorm type "sale" rug(you get what you pay for is so true). Within several weeks the binding is unraveling, partly due to students pulling the loose threads and partly due to the custodian's vacuum eating it up! By the second month of school the rug is in the trash and I'm back to taping names on the floor. It would be wonderful to avoid this yearly ritual by having a high quality fire resistant classroom carpet. Lakeshore Learning sells a carpet with brightly colored squares-allowing students to choose their own favorite colored special square to sit on. Your consideration of my proposal is greatly appreciated.
