My Project

Let's face it, since COVID-19 our students have had to deal with some pretty difficult emotions and feelings that are not the norm. Many of the students never got to experience pre-k or kindergarten in person. Therefore, they missed so many opportunities to engage in the social emotional aspect of daily life in school. They never learned how to properly deal with the long school days and the routine that is expected. Research has shown that it affected social emotional responses to what used to be basic life stressors.

Research has shown that students not only need academic support, but social-emotional learning as well!

It is for this reason that I would like to create a calming, Zen corner in my classroom, where students can go to learn the proper strategies to ensure their mental and emotional health needs are also met.

The sensory equipment I am asking for are child appropriate and a way to feel relaxed when students can't control their emotions. The equipment will be used in conjunction with research-based instruction, to ensure we are meeting the mental, physical, learning, and emotional health of every student.
