I teach high school chemistry in a rural Texas community. We were hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. Many students' homes flooded. The one place that they can always turn to for a sense of normalcy, our school, flooded as well.
Our community's heart is centered on our school.
As everyone continues to rebuild, we support one another through this tumultuous recovery process.
My students have a unique southern charm and courtesy. Their charisma is contagious and keeps me going throughout the day.
My Project
A computer with access to the internet is beyond a tool. It tests student assumptions by offering access to expert advice and research. It expands students’ horizons by exposing them to new concepts and information through virtual tours and simulations.
A computer with internet access helps students gain knowledge in an unfamiliar subject through comfortable means.
Access to the internet via computer helps students produce results through multi-media and interactive programs.
A computer with access to the internet helps students learn by improving retention through engagement. A computer is non-judgmental. A non-judgmental environment is critical in breaking down individuals' natural resistance to change - in prejudices and attitudes.
A classroom computer that is accessible by students is useful because various assignments are assigned through the web. For example, I assign projects through Google Classroom. In order for students to access a project (without using a cell phone), they need a computer. Sometimes students need to ask me questions about the project. Some students do not have access to a computer at home. A computer in my classroom would allow them to access the information and simultaneously have the ability to ask me questions.
