We are the only high poverty school in our district with many disadvantaged students. They have few opportunities to view or participate in theatre and the arts. Seattle Theatre Group has given us the opportunity and expertise to grow our Drama Club program through Disney Musicals in Schools. Our Drama Club kids are talented and enthusiastic.
For many students, this is a chance to shine is a way they are not able to in the classroom.
We have several students whose behavior has improved due to their participation in our program. They are gaining confidence, self-worth and perseverance.
We are striving to build a sustainable program of Musical Theatre in our Title 1 school. We have good momentum in our 3rd year of the club thanks to the support from Seattle Theatre Group. We are excited and grateful to Disney Musicals in Schools' offer to match donations up to $1,000.
The materials we are requesting will be used by students to create costumes, props and sets for this year's performance of The AristoCats, March 26-28, as well as future productions.
We are trying to create items that can be adapted and reused again and again. Our actors, singers and dancers really come to life as the don their costumes and come onto the stage.
