Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our community school is very diverse where many backgrounds and languages are represented. For most of our students, English is not their primary language. As a result, my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face on an everyday basis, I am always looking to provide my students with meaningful learning experiences.
As Albert Einstein said, "The only source of knowledge is experience."
My students need to experience new read alouds that will create meaningful discussions in the classroom.
My Project
In my classroom, character traits are taught in various ways. As a result, I am requesting meaningful read alouds that will teach my students the importance of tolerance and patience to help build a strong sense of classroom community.
These books will allow my students to take a step in someone else's shoes and see why it is so important to have tolerance and understanding toward each other.
I would read these books aloud to my reading classes as a whole group while the students focus on the important theme or message of the book. Following the story, as a class we will be able to discuss feelings and thoughts. These discussions will create an environment where every idea and feeling is valued and accepted. Building a classroom community takes time and these read alouds will be a perfect way to send a powerful message.
