Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The students at our school come from a lot of diverse backgrounds, but they are collectively energetic, fun-loving, and extremely driven students. As residents of an ever-growing city, they are constantly competing for opportunities students at better-funded schools have a higher chance of being able to take part in. Our students may not have a monetary advantage, but what they lack in financial support they make up in a great love of learning and dedication to making their dreams come true. It is my hope that through growing the school library and library program, students have something they are proud to be a part of as they continue to learn and grow.

My Project

Currently, my school is teaching/learning 100% virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of this, students have limited access to books and other reading materials. By providing students with e-readers, we hope to remove the barrier of physical access to books. Our district is working towards purchasing more e-books this year than ever before in order to bridge the gap of access, but buying e-books is only one part of the solution. These e-readers, if purchased for my students, will allow them to have books in their hands once more.
