My Project

What I love most about my students is their resilience, creativity, and the way they show up every day with unique stories, perspectives, and lived experiences that enrich our classroom community. In my Title I school, where the majority of students are Black and Hispanic, my scholars often connect classroom learning to real-life situations such as family responsibilities, community experiences, cultural traditions, and overcoming challenges. They are thoughtful, expressive, and motivated when they see themselves reflected in what they are learning.

This novel study will help students make meaningful connections between the text and their own lives.

The resources will support guided reading, discussion questions, and interactive activities that allow students to relate characters’ struggles, decisions, and growth to their own experiences with family, friendship, identity, and perseverance. Vocabulary and comprehension supports will help multilingual learners access the text, while collaborative activities will encourage students to share their voices and perspectives. Ultimately, these resources will help students see that reading is not just about books—it is about understanding their own stories and the world around them.
