My school is located in a small, somewhat isolated community in Maine. We are a Title I school with a strong focus on reading and math. Over 60% of our students receive free lunch.
The teachers at our school truly love and care about each student who comes through our doors, and we are proud of the kind, caring and supportive climate we cultivate with our kids.
After spending almost every day with our students, a class becomes more like a family.
My Project
When I make my yearly budget requests, I focus on the major items that will effect my students' growth; books, technology, intervention tools, etc. As the school year progress, I am inevitably faced with the realization that the smaller items, which don't fit into the budget, are lacking in my classroom. My kids and I often end up on classroom to classroom quests, searching for these items and hoping to borrow them from other rooms. The longer I teach, the more I realize that the little things are equally as important as the large ticket items!
Hand sanitizer, tissues and Clorox wipes to keep the kids healthy and in class; cereal bars to keep their bellies full and minds on task; white board cleaner so my notes show up clearly: these are the little things that help a school year run smoothly!
