My Students

Our students are incredibly creative and innovative. They continually raise the bar with their ownership of learning and and bravery to try new things. Our elementary school is a special place; as the only district in the state without a racial majority, we celebrate the diversity of our classrooms by affirming our variety of cultures, languages, and learning styles. Though many of our students live in poverty, their resiliency speaks volumes about their capability and agency to change their community!

My students deserve to experience all the world has to offer; they deserve to be heard.

They benefit from being able to create, explore, and collaborate with others. We build community and character through rich experiences and support all learners, even when faced with low funding.

My Project

Our students are learning the importance of preservation, reducing and reusing and are enjoying time outdoors more and more. As we have been planting in our school garden, reading outside and even going on scholarly outdoor scavenger hunts, the desire to be one with the outdoors is increasing among the students!

These picnic tables will provide a place for students to observe and enjoy nature, while conducting regular school activities such as reading, collaborating, making scientific observations, and even eating lunch!

This project will help students learn about protecting and preserving the Earth. While outside tending to our garden, the tables will provide a place for students to record their scientific observations. They will be able to hold their discussions and practice collaborating like the scientists that they are. What's more, this will provide all of the students (and teachers) at IE with a lovely place to enjoy the outdoors.
