Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my class are hard working students. They show perseverance, and they have good character. They are enthusiastic learners who have a passion for learning and living. My school is located in the heart of a community in a busy city in Southern California. A majority of our students are of Latin descent and come from homes where Spanish is the primary language spoken.

My students come from low-income, economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. As if suffering from the effects of poverty wasn't enough, many of my students are being exposed to domestic violence, child abuse, neglect, lack of health care, hunger, homelessness, and substance abuse. Their families do not have access to resources and there is very little support at home. Nevertheless, my students show an appreciative joy and have a positive attitude when they come to school each day.

My Project

It is impossible to always get all the right answers. But when one creates art, one is never wrong! Art is an expression of our thoughts and feelings. Incorporating the arts with other core subjects, encourage creative thinking and it enables the students to achieve their highest level of learning.

The joy of making art is that there is no right or wrong, just a freedom of expression that celebrates everyone's individuality.

The markers and crayons will be incredible resources that will motivate, engage and excite all learners. As students learn about the elements of art: color, shapes, and lines, they will create pieces of art that will independently express their thoughts. Help me honor my students' creativity by not only helping them grow academically but artistically as well.
