I teach kindergarten in a public choice school in an economically disadvantage area in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. My class consists of 24 hard working students who despite their lack of school experience and their limited English proficiency, continue to work very hard to meet the grade level standards. I know that a large achievement gap exists between English learners and the English fluent students; and it is my mission and vision to give my students all the tools and knowledge necessary to decrease this gap. My students need lots of support due to the fact that while they are working on learning the kindergarten curriculum they are also learning a new language.
