My Students

Our scholars receive free breakfast and free lunch. For many of our scholars, this is the only place they receive a healthy meal. Many of our scholars come from single-family households, without the means to provide their students with the necessary school supplies for the year. Many of our scholars have experienced indescribable hardships and come to school as a safe haven for their personal struggles. Often, some scholars have to walk through areas of violence to and from school.

Despite these hardships, we believe that our scholars deserve the best educational experience and that we need to work together with families, schools and the community, to provide our scholars with the skills necessary to have the most opportunities to thrive.

My Project

Many of our scholars are homeless and/or moving through the foster care system. They don’t have essential needs.

With this project, we are hoping to help provide them with essential needs.

We have found that many of our scholars get chapped lips. They can blister and make focusing at school very challenging. We included petroleum jelly because we have students who have skin conditions that require special ointments to offer relief. Due to the high costs of these, many of our scholars get no help. We have found that petroleum jelly is just as effective and really helps those particular scholars. Sometimes we don't have the funds to purchase belts and repair clothing items. The zip ties help us adjust pant sizes for our scholars to help them be able to wear their pants appropriately. Some of our scholars have to wear hand me downs and they often might not fit. The Zip Ties are a quick fix to get the pants fitting right. We also included safety pins. They are a great material to use when a button has popped off or something is too low cut for our ladies. We also included socks, I can't tell you how often our scholars come to school with worn out socks with holes in them. During the harsh winters in Cleveland Ohio it's really important that they have socks. Lastly, we are including peppermints for fresh breath and keeping us alert during class.

Our homeless scholars need these items to help comfort them during this incredibly difficult time. Many of them have a large number of siblings and this project will help fill our “Kindness Kloset” where they can always have access to essential needs.
