My students are very special because we are from a rural community and don't always have access to materials that others from larger and wealthier communities may have. My students have special needs that it is my job to address. They have needs that may hinder them from communicating with their peers and teachers which affects their ability to socialize and be successful in the classroom.
Our community is filled with many people that care about our school and the success of the children in it.
Our school is very special because it is filled with educated and compassionate teachers that are devoted to providing the best learning environment for their students.
All of these materials will make a difference in the lives of my students in a fun and educational way. With the auditory feedback phones my students that are specifically working on sounds that they can't say will be able to hear their sounds that they are practicing in words so that they can hear them amplified. They then can have success at school with practicing their sound and take the phones home to practice and get the repetition.
The fun learning games that I want to purchase for my speech and language students are amazing ways for me to be able to incorporate my speech and language goals with a game that causes my small group of children (2-3 students) to not only work on their specific needs but to also allow them to practice their social skills.
Social skills among children are skills that need to be addressed as more and more children are not socializing but just playing technological games by themselves. I would also share my games with the elementary classroom teachers so that more children can enjoy them.
Finally, I have also requested some more specific early learning groups of flashcards that I will be able to use with my younger students that are struggling with learning and using words.
Every child deserves the right to communicate! Babies will find some way to communicate from day one in their lives. Often times we don't know what that child is trying to say. As a Speech Therapist it is my job to build a bridge for that child and the person they are trying to communicate with. It is very frustrating for the communicator and the listener if that bridge is broken. Thank you for providing me with the tools and supplies to build that bridge.
