Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with high energy, inquisitive students in CA. My school is in a high risk neighborhood and has a high transiency rate. We are 100% free breakfast/lunch and are roughly 65% English language learners.
The children in my classroom come from high poverty homes and often times are not afforded many opportunities that others are due to their social status.
Despite the fact that there is high poverty and crime in our community, my students love coming to school to learn. School is where they feel safe, loved and is often the only stable environment they experience in their day.
My Project
My students come from a diverse area. Many students do not have access to educational materials at home. School is where these students go to foster their love of reading, science, and math.
My students thrive off of encouragement and praise from their peers, they love to share ideas and activities with one another.
These students are detectives, they love to find new places, people, and stories in books. They are constantly making connections to the real world by reading and finding what it is like to be in other people's shoes. My students come to school and know that they are in a place where they can be detectives and are always excited to see the days discoveries.
Students excel when given constant feedback and encouragement. The Apple iPad allows me to teach unplugged and keep students engaged. I will be able to project from anywhere in the classroom! For example, if I notice that many students are struggling with a concept I can start teaching to the whole class from where ever I am standing, creating an environment with quick feedback.
Instead of the teacher being stuck at the board, the iPad lets the teacher move throughout the classroom.
My students will also have the opportunity to work with the iPad as well and they will be able to project their work to their peers.
