Evergreen High School students come from a diverse background. We have 85% of our students receiving free or reduced price breakfast and lunch. There are over 20 languages spoken at Evergreen and students come from around the world. For many students English is there second language.
Our marching band used to be the heart and soul of the school and then they broke up the school into 3 schools for many years and the band program was almost non-existent.
Now we are restarting the marching program but we don't have any bass drums.
My Project
Our music students and our whole school will benefit from having a great marching band by increasing music learning and creating an amazing school climate and spirit for our community and school.
Music is the foundation of the soul, it teaches us how to live and feel, it lifts us up, soothes our spirit and uniquely and profoundly increases cognitive growth and understanding.
This project will give our students the musical instruments to be able to practice, rehearse and perform a marching band show.
They will be able to utilize previous musical knowledge to further their music reading and understanding. Using these drums the students will learn rhythms, tempo, musical phrasing and how to care for and tune marching bass drums.
In rehearsal and performance students will also use the drums to coordinate marching drill and pep concerts for our athletic teams, pep rallies and assemblies. They will work with other music students who are playing other drums and band instruments to coordinate a complete band performance. Our hope is to eventually also use the drums to perform at marching festivals and competitions in and out of state.
