Ms. Gilbert from Avondale LA is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a chance to expand their coding knowledge with books on Scratch and Python. They can further explore design with vinyl cutting using the Silhouette to create fun stickers, t-shirts, and more!

We're going full STEAM ahead! In my technology classes, 6th and 7th graders are being exposed to all things science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. The students are learning the fundamentals in my course before they move up in the school to the more advanced classes in the upper grade-levels. Class is fun because there are so many cool, innovative things happening within the field.
My philosophy is that the sooner the students are exposed to the wonders of STEM and STEAM, the more capable they will be because they'll have gained skills to make a change in the future.
Already the sixth graders, who are new to the school, are showcasing amazing skills that they have developed on their own with games like Minecraft and programs like SCRATCH. I love that STEM has become something of an everyday norm to students and I'm happy that I can continue to share and feed that love in them.
My tech students are using design thinking and processes to get the most out of their educational experience. Honestly, everyday someone is coming to me and sharing new ideas! They are doing their own research in and out of the classroom.
As we move into the second half of the year, there were many requests for tangible activities and resources for the students to access. With the pandemic, many of the students' activities would've normally had the chance to participate in have been put on hold for safety reasons. The students have been diving deeper into creative coding using Scratch and as the challenges have increased, so has the students' desire to know more.
The in-class library has a few books for the students to use to help them with their coding or provide them with project ideas.
Since we have covered so much more coding content, having additional support resources for the students to try out new ideas or get help with different code layouts is essential. The books in this project will be good additions that expand on the students growing love for code.
This year, we have been incorporating more challenges across the different class periods. One of the most commonly requested rewards or prizes has been t-shirts. With the Silhouette Cameo, the students can create their own prize shirt designs for a more custom experience. The students' bonus of learning how to use another tech device and further develop their 21st-century skills comes with the knowledge that they created something real.
