Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in a rural town in New Mexico. I teach first-grade dual language in an inclusion program to serve children with both English and Spanish. I currently have twenty-seven students and teach the English component of the DL program.
I have 18 girls and 12 boys.
My school serves low-income, high-poverty students. One hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
My ultimate goal is to provide the best education and a safe learning environment for all of my students by supporting their everyday needs. My students love drawing and painting and during this difficult time, that has helped them with their emotional stress and anxiety. My students are finding their inner strengths during this time, and they are helping each other.
Preparing our students for the future is crucial for educational success. During uncertain times like today, we need to secure the future for our students. Underprivileged students deserve a great education even if it's an online education during school closures.
My Project
Although many don't think these are essential they are! Having hair brushes, combs and hand soap are essential during remote learning. These items are overlooked by many but are so necessary for our students. Keeping their motivation and self esteem up having our students come to class (remotely) looking their absolute best is important. Boost their self esteem and teach them about hygiene is important. Please help us provide essentials for remote learning. The bags will be used to put their items inside as we distribute packages. I know adults would not like to be in front of camera without looking their best, so why should our students. Let's promote hygiene and keep students on top of their A game by looking sharp every day.
