My Students

In my seventh-grade geography classroom, students discover and explore the world. They begin to develop an understanding of their role as a global citizen and the influence they can have on their community.

The student make-up of my school is extremely diverse.

My school educates some of the highest percentages of African-American, Hmong and Latino students in the district. Many of our students come from economically challenged households, as close to seventy percent of our student body qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch. One out of five students is a special education learner.

I am honored to be able to educate these amazing students. They are thoughtful, creative and work hard. They deserve the very best and for their classroom to be a safe, fun and exciting environment in which they learn. I strive to make school feel like a second home. I want my classroom to look the way I make my students feel, which is empowered, happy and creative.

My Project

Over the course of the school year, students have used up many of the consumable materials. We have been working very hard all year and my classroom is very low on pencils and erasers. Most of the markers are no longer working well. In addition, my students are in need of headphones. Our textbook is now available online with a reading feature. In order for the students to access this feature, we need a class set of headphones.

These materials will help to improve the quality of my student's learning.

The headphones, specifically, will allow students to access video features such as Brain Pop and Edpuzzle. Students who are low readers will be able to listen to large pieces of text rather than be overwhelmed by the reading. The students are looking forward to getting these materials!
