My Students

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ~Nelson Mandela. I teach Personal Finance and Principles of Business courses in community in rural North Carolina where we have had terrible luck over the past four years. We have been plagued by two hurricanes, and now the Coronavirus has claimed a large part of our school year again. Our county was already one of the poorest counties in the state, but all these events, especially this one, has taken a huge economic toll on our population. In this new age of quarantine, virtually all school systems in the nation are operating under very unique conditions....we have taken learning online. While technology is a great resource and we are blessed to have this as an option, many of my students cannot take part in this method of learning because they lack devices or are having to share devices with multiple siblings. This creates an issue for those who are willing, but not able, to continue their education from home. I am asking for assistance to provide devices to students and families who do not have access to, or resources to buy, them.

My Project

Many of my students do not have devices at home or are having to share devices with multiple siblings, causing them to be extremely limited in the time they can devote to their classes. Having these devices to share with my students will help them achieve remote learning expectations and access needed resources. Students without access will be allowed to check them out during this mandatory remote learning phase, and once things return to normal, students will be allowed to check them out on weekends for projects or other assignments they need to complete.
