This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Right now, esports at Villa Park High School lives in one room. Students who walk past it may never know it exists, and students who would thrive in it never get invited in. This project changes that by turning equipment we already own (two monitors, an Xbox, and a PlayStation) into a complete mobile esports station that can go anywhere on campus.

An adjustable-height steel cart with a locking cabinet will carry everything safely.

A dual-monitor mount sets up two side-by-side gaming stations, and a quiet cabinet fan keeps the consoles cool during long events. The adjustable height means students can play standing, sitting, or from a wheelchair. With this setup, we can run lunchtime Marvel Rivals and Fortnite tournaments in the quad, host demo stations at Back to School Night and Open House, and bring esports into other classrooms and community events.

This cart won't arrive finished, and that's the point. My graphic design internship students will design and produce a custom vinyl wrap for it as a real client project: research, sketches, mockups, a pitch to the esports team, and final production. My players will own the setup, cable management, safety checks, and breakdown for every event, planning brackets, shoutcasting matches, and promoting through our program's social media.

Our Marvel Rivals team has been nationally ranked since last year, and our program is built on teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship. This cart lets us share that with every student at Villa Park, not just the ones who already found us. This is Phase 1. Our next goal is adding a Nintendo Switch 2 so we can bring Super Smash Bros., our third competitive title, along for the ride.
