Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are 6th grade self contained students. They have intellectual, sensory and emotional impairments that are aided in a small classroom setting. My students struggle with mathematics concepts and This year our goals are to build confidence in our foundation math skills and to become more engaged with our learning.
My students work together as a community based on their learning styles and interests.
They work very hard and a big issue for them is retention of topics. I am always looking for new and interesting ways in order to help them to thrive and remember different topics. We are a part of a large school that celebrates inquisitive learning. All of my students are working hard towards high school and college by relating all of their topics to real world situations.
My Project
My students are in a Title I school where extra curricular materials are scarce and hard to come by. I teach 3 classes of special education students and having math for an hour and a half a day can be a struggle. My students have all different learning types.
My students need to be able to get up and move around while in class in order to help them remain focused and for their attention to be grasped.
They are much more attentive when lessons are hands on and they get to move around the room. Breakout EDU has developed an Escape Room kit in which they are able to use locks, keys and other resources to solve math and other STEM problems in order to complete their lessons and tasks.
