Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a low income, high poverty neighborhood that hinders their chances of success in school. We have a nice size classroom however it is within a building that is 100 years old. Updates are needed.
As their teacher, I am constantly using my own money to bring needed supplies to my students and turn their classroom into a positive environment for learning.
Nothing makes me happier than to see my students getting excited about a lesson and putting all their energy into solving a problem or conducting an experiment.
My Project
My middle school students have been known to say “When are we going to do anything fun? This is so boring.” As a teacher, you think when did school need to be fun?
Escape room games provide students with the opportunity to play and learn at the same time.
The benefits for students include critical thinking, teamwork, problem solving and confidence.
The Werewolf Experiment combines kinetic learning, spatial reasoning, critical thinking, and teamwork into a format kids love. Everyone wins! Plague: The Board Game, Escape Room the Game and The Secret of Dr. Gravely's Retreat are pre-made escape games. My students will use these as they learn how solve the mysteries. The UV lights, locks, red lens glasses and invisible ink pens will allow us to develop a wide variety of escape room games that are unique and specific to our curriculum.
