My students need a learning environment that is warm and inviting and addresses their unique learning styles. This environment should include flexible seating that is adapted cozy and inviting.
My students come from a wide range of socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. They have a wide mix of cognitive, emotional and social backgrounds. My students range in age from 3 years to 5 years old. Many of them have experienced lives filled with trauma and challenges that I, at 46 years of age, have never been faced with, yet they show up day after day with loving smiles, hugs, and joyful spirits. They are curious about the world around them, and they are eager to learn everything they can. They are global learners who will inspire the world.
It is my honor and pleasure to serve my students by preparing lessons that will engage them, inspire their passion and desire for learning and develop their drive for lifelong learning.
My students' desire to learn is much stronger than the challenges that face them. It brings me great joy to see my students make progress on a daily basis. Experiences, opportunities and thoughtful planning help them to build and develop skills that are delayed and improve their cognition. Our student population is 26% Hispanic, 6% Multiracial, .1% Hawaiian / Pacific Islander, 34.4% White, 31.7% Black and .07% Asian.
My Project
I have been an educator for 25 years and I get excited when I learn of new ways to help my students learn. Recent brain research and learning styles studies show that students learn best when their learning environment is comfortable. Comfort is different for everyone so providing a variety of options for seating like the comfy floor seat, for each of my student is critical to optimize their learning potential. I want each student to feel comfortable and as a result be more engaged in the activities that are presented. I want to meet my students needs so that they can reach their maximum learning potential. Some students need a flex space balance ball that allows them to move or recline and even cacoon. Hard straight chairs can cause a student to fidget and disengage.
