My Students

Reading opens whole new worlds to students. Many of my students don't find reading fun and exciting because it is not one of their strengths, and we don't have many new and exciting things to read.

My students are 11th graders that have not had a lot of stability in their education.

Our school is in a new school district with new administration and almost all new teachers. Many of my students struggle with reading, are embarrassed to read, or have had bad experiences in the past with reading.

My Project

In order to inspire my students to try reading and enjoy it I want to use eReaders in class. Eventually I would like to have a class set, but I want to start with 8 nooks. These electronic readers have the whole book digitally. Books can be downloaded instantly, and many titles are less expensive in the ebook form. Using the nook electronic readers will seem like fun, and the students will see reading with one as a privilege rather than a drudgery. When students are confident readers they are better testers and more confident in their other school work.

Students that read well are students that have the tools necessary to achieve.

Donations to this project will help a child read. Students that have given up will be motivated to try again with this new "toy". Their lives will be changed forever.
