Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Living in a large and diverse community of Fresno, my well-deserved, yet underprivileged, students come to school eager and ready to learn each day.
Over 80% of the students come from low income families.
Our school ensures the well being and social emotional support they need. All students receive free lunches daily and can eat breakfast at school each morning.
Rising above their circumstances, my students are ambitious to learn and practice how to be leaders for themselves and their communities.
My Project
Students will have access to reading material at their level for independent reading. When students have such opportunity, it will lead to growth in reading skill and comprehension.
They will take the initiative to read their books and change them out for new ones, expanding their learning and interest.
The book bags will give them a sense of ownership of the books. When the book are their responsibility, they take care of it more than usual.
In correlation to reading, writing is a skill that will improve as well. The exposure to different writing will increase their knowledge of written text. The notebooks are to provide consistent practice in class and at home.
