Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a group of energetic scholars. They are eager English Learners who are ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century. They are girls and boys that simply need the resources to stimulate their creative minds.
They derive from hard-working families and who have to balance their rigorous academic work while tackling the challenges of living in a community plagued by the ills of poverty.
Regardless of the issues they face on a daily basis, they have goals, drive, and most importantly, they are hungry for knowledge. They possess great aspirations for change in their neighborhood, our country, and the world.
My Project
Teachers can never stop being students! This is an idea that I have used to drive my practice since I became a teacher twelve years ago. If we want our students to evolve and expand their thinking, as educators, we must actively look for opportunities as well.
I am looking forward to attending this conference because it will force me to think meta-cognitively about my own practice, knowing that if I expect my students to think "out of the box," I should do the same.
I hope that by attending this conference I will immerse myself in the equity-centered design process as a tool for innovative practice. With the gained knowledge, I hope to create an innovative safe space in my classroom for all students.
Lastly, I hope to foster a creative space where students can learn to identify and employ innovative problem-solving skills.
