My Students
Genuine, loyal, fiercely independent students highly affected by COVID. My students live in a densely populated small city outside of Boston. It took me about 2 minutes to completely fall in love with them. They are tough, witty, and hungry for opportunity. When someone honors their perspective, they return the favor with fierce loyalty.
My students and their families have been hit hard by COVID; our small city was the hotspot of the entire state.
A majority of their parents are essential workers, and many students are left with major responsibilities by taking care of younger siblings, even when they themselves are as young as 10 years old.
My students teach and give to me everyday. My greatest hope for them is to never let go of their identity, and set the world ablaze.
My Project
My students are 10-14 years old, yet many have younger siblings they are going to have to care for while also learning from home. Something as simple as headphones increases their focus; something as simple as an agenda maintains their organization. Such simple things that we all take for granted!
Many of my students share rooms with siblings that are also engaging in remote learning, have learning differences, and will be most affected by the growing equity gap due to remote learning.
This will help them in their journeys towards success!
