I need funds to help me to go to NYC to attend a highly recommended workshop at the Teachers College at Columbia University to learn about equity and diversity in the classroom.

My Students

My classroom is a place where all students and their ideas are valued and respected. I think the music room is the perfect place for students to discover who they are and learn to find their voice. Whether we’re bucket drumming, playing ukuleles, learning a song in a foreign language or creating a soundtrack there are multiple opportunities for students to express themselves!

I learn to adapt and grow because of my students every day.

Their diverse backgrounds and experiences inform (and will continue to inform) our learning. Learning from them makes our classroom material more rich and meaningful.

My Project

Attending this highly recommended workshop in NYC at the Teacher’s College at Columbia University will help me to grow as an educator in the area of equity in the classroom. It’s so important to find ways to learn more about myself and my students and their diverse backgrounds in order to even the playing field in the music room. I participate on our Cultural Diversity committee and have done an observation at another district in order to gain more perspective on the subject but I’m ready to take the next step in my journey of learning. I want to collaborate with experts in the field and other teachers to get ideas and perspective to use in my classroom and our district.
