This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Working as a speech pathologist with middle school students from low-income families is more than increasing a student’s vocabulary skills. It means having to cultivate meaningful relationships with students that provides care and support, motivation and goal orientation, academic self-efficacy, a sense of purpose, and a safe space where I can nurture student’s hopes and dreams for themselves, even in the face of struggle. However, providing this meaningful support, in addition to helping students meet their academic requirements, during the COVID-19 pandemic is nearly impossible because students do not have the economic resources to purchase technology necessary to engage in virtual schooling.

My Project

Laptops and desktops will allow students receive synchronous speech therapy services to learn from home during the Covid-19 pandemic. Students will be able to logon to TEAMS from home, and participate in speech and language therapeutic activities. Technology will allow students to take charge of their online learning and make the choices that work best for them.

During online instructional times, students will be able to logon to Microsoft Teams to talk to teachers and therapists.

Currently 50% of my students do not have access to reliable technology. Making sure students have access to technology is an essential component to getting an education during Covid-19 pandemic.
