Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In our Title I school, many students in my special education resource setting face economic and learning challenges. These students come to our classroom eager to learn, but often without the basic supplies they need to fully participate.
Having personal toolkits with essential items—pencil pouches, colored pencils, highlighters, pencils, pens, and erasers—will allow my students to focus on their learning instead of worrying about whether they have the tools they need.
These kits support executive functioning, reduce anxiety, and create a structured learning environment that is critical for students with diverse learning needs.
In our classroom, each student will receive a pencil pouch filled with tools they will use daily during reading, writing, and small-group instruction. Colored pencils will support visual learning and vocabulary development, while highlighters will help students identify key information in texts and improve reading comprehension. Pencils and pens will support everything from organizing thoughts to editing written work, and erasers will give students the freedom to take risks and learn from their mistakes without fear. These items are not just school supplies—they are critical tools that support engagement, confidence, and success for students with unique learning needs.
For students in special education, consistency and structure are essential. These basic tools promote independence, engagement, and confidence. In a Title I setting, where families may not always be able to provide school supplies, your support ensures that every child is equally prepared to succeed.
