My Students

Middle school kids are AWESOME, but they do tend to drop stuff. I need new beakers for my science lab!

I teach sixth grade science at an amazing, vibrant, wonderful inner-city school in Seattle.

We have an incredibly diverse group of kids. We have kids with special needs, kids who are just learning English, kids with severe medical issues, kids with learning disabilities, and also a gifted program. We have students from all over the world at our school. These kids are amazing, and it's wonderful to see their intellectual curiosity and to watch them grow.

My Project

These kids are wonderful, but we do tend to go through the glassware! Stuff gets dropped from time to time. Over the years, my collection has dwindled and I find that I now need new beakers for the lab. I'm asking for good quality sturdy beakers, so hopefully these ones will hold up a bit better. I just love watching kids get interested in science/technology/math. In our state, there are lots of jobs that require these skills - jobs at Microsoft, Boeing, biotech companies, and other high tech employers - but our school system isn't producing enough qualified people to fill them. So our own kids from Washington don't get these well-paying jobs and these employers have to bring in workers from out of state and out of the country to fill these great jobs. I WANT KIDS EXCITED ABOUT SCIENCE!!

Having new beakers will mean we can do lots of cool experiments in science class. i feel like the more hands-on stuff kids can do, the more interesting science will feel to them. I want them to develop and maintain a big interest in science. I sure appreciate your help.
