My students are amazing! They’ve faced some very difficult times in their young lives and have, as a result, learned some poor coping mechanisms. They have learned and exhibit behaviors that no longer allow them to remain in mainstream classrooms. Additionally, some have learning disabilities, and some have mental health issues. All of them come to school facing obstacles that make learning more challenging.
Regardless of the additional challenges that the children face, they come to school each day with motivation to have a meaningful, great day, and to learn new ways of behaving which allow them to return to a mainstream classroom.
Most of my students come from financially disadvantaged homes without access to technology. I would love to increase their experience with technology in the classroom. Many of the district and state assessments are also given utilizing technology. Greater exposure would afford them the opportunity to be more successful when presented with these assessments.
My Project
With the addition of laptops in our classroom, the students will be able to access on line materials and have equal exposure to academic resources.
Our world revolves around technology, and students are often assessed using technology.
Our students need to have frequent and varied exposure to academic technology in order to have equal opportunity to perform. Many of my students have issues with motivation and focus. For some of them it is due to conditions such as anxiety and ADHD. For others, there is worry about living conditions and social issues. Utilizing technology is engaging for students. It allows them to become immersed in a lesson and increases both motivation and the ability to replay or repeat a segment if focus is lost or understanding is lacking. Technology allows students to get immediate feedback and remediation on an individualized basis. By utilizing technology, we are able to fill gaps in student learning as each child requires, and students can then return to a mainstream classroom feeling strong and ready to soar!
