Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students in the functional skills program range in age from 14-22 and present with a diagnosed intellectual disabilities similar to moderate cognitive impairments. They travel to and from high school with door to door transportation; due to their cognitive limitations, and the dangerous risks involved in traveling across the city via public transportation.
We aspire to teach our students the necessary adaptive life skills to be happy, successful, and contributing members of society.
They become "employees" in the school run Copy Center. They work recycling within the school. We are located close in proximity to a local hospital where they work as greeters.
Academically, it is vital for our students to gain the knowledge needed to be successful active members in society. They need to be able to access public transportation, make the appropriate change at a store, and to request help or clarification. Ideally, it would be wonderful if they could access the digital world in areas other than social media.
My Project
My students will be empowered while learning using a Chromebook and all it has to offer. I look forward to teaching my students all the exciting things that are available to them.
Chromebooks will be the tool to help my students soar.
Life skills will be at their fingertips, from map skills to daily calendar, to areas of the digital world that provide access to better communication with others.
Editing photos would be a fabulous project for students to learn, as they have a small business in card making and that skill will have a source of income in their future if they choose to pursue it. Please help me better help my students!
