My Students

"Every child deserves a champion -- an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best they can possibly be." (Rita F. Pierson) I support a high poverty 4K-5th grade elementary school. I am blessed to work with some of the most amazing students! As a school counselor, I strive each day to be that "champion" for my students...a consistent and reliable adult that will care for them and support them unconditionally, even when they make mistakes and test the limits.

My students face a number of challenges and hardships outside of school which impact their ability to come to school and learn.

By providing a comprehensive school counseling program with classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling, I support students' social-emotional learning, thus enabling them to experience greater levels of academic success in the classroom.

My Project

One of the most common reasons that 21st century employees are fired is a lack of social skills. The ability to communicate with others, work on a team, take another person's perspective, and manage emotions are just a few of the social-emotional skills that help children and adults live happy, productive lives. Through classroom guidance, small group counseling, and individual counseling, I teach these essential social-emotional skills to my students to instill lifelong skills that will help them find success in school and beyond.

Through the implementation of Kimochis, my students will have a fun and engaging way to understand and practice these skills.

I am requesting the Kimochis Educator's Tool Kit which comes with all five plush characters, 29 emotions, and a take-home Parent Guide to help parents utilize the skills we are teaching at school at home as well. Kimochis® are a fun and easy way to introduce social-emotional learning and character education to children. This program will help me to create an optimistic, caring environment where children will feel connected, included and valued—a place where significant learning can occur and everyone can communicate with respect and kindness. When children can effectively communicate feelings, they build confidence, self-esteem, strong relationships and the foundations for academic success and social and emotional intelligence.
