This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My fourth grade students love their geometry unit! They each get to use a kit filled with lots of hands-on materials like protractors, straws, and plastic shapes to learn about geometry concepts. We trace, measure, estimate, compose, and compare. But I don't love the storage we've been using! We've been storing their materials in plastic Ziploc sandwich bags. They're hard to close and have to be replaced multiple times a year because the shapes are sharp and cut through the plastic. We label the bags with their names in Sharpie, which constantly wear off.

I'd like to give my students reusable zipper bags to store their materials.

They will be easy to open and close and are still clear so that they can see what's inside. They will fit well in their desks. They also have a label built in. Not only will this decrease stress, it will save time in the classroom so more time can be spent on learning. It will also be better for the environment and save money, since they should last for years!

I've also included extra small and large bags to store the geometry materials that we share as well as pipe cleaners which I want to use with the straws to more easily build angles and polygons.
