My Project

Every year I encourage students to buy one water bottle and refill it with tap water. We have cold water filter machines on each floor of the building. This year the EPA tested our water and it had enough lead to turn off the water in the classroom for one month while they changed our 1948 pipes.

Using our classroom as a model for environmentally safe practices will foster good habits.

Once we weigh our food waste in the compost container, we can learn how to take only what we eat in the cafeteria. When we weigh the paper waste, students will be less likely to throw away their first try.

We will start the 2024-25 academic year with multiple use water bottles that we refill. This should save us 5,580 plastic bottles next year. We will grow seedlings in our pots with soil and transplant them in our school garden. This will teach students to eat fruits and vegetables they grow themselves, and buy from farms that are local.

Organizing our waste in separate bins, and compost bins and bags will limit the waste we produce going into landfill. I too will benefit from these new practices.
