My students need materials to brainstorm, collaborate, work on prototypes and empathy maps/interviews. For these processes within the design thinking in the classroom students need an easel white board, markers and lots of sticky notes.
My senior students are the first graduating class of a transformed school that opened four years ago. My students are Innovators, Designers and Entrepreneurs. Students in an inner city school that are resilient and motivated to embrace what the future has to offer. Students that with proper guidance take ownership of their learning and use their talents to serve the community. These students are ready to design solutions for the challenges that our local and global community are facing today.
If this project is funded the students in the Environmental Science class will have an opportunity within the Blended Rotation Model to write their ideas and refer to them over and over again while modifying prototypes of their designs. These materials are going to be the catalyst to let the ideas popcorn out and flow. Students can identify patterns and organize them into thoughtful designs to solve local/global environmental problems. The different colored sticky notes help visual learners. The kinesthetic/tactile learners benefit from standing up and writing on the easel board, and moving the sticky notes helps to engage auditory learners with the thought process in a dynamic way while the ideas flow and are shared in the collaborative group.
